Steven would change eventually with his revolution.

They worked their way through the dark water until a pink arrow pointed up.

They’d reached the central lagoon of the island.

Good thing, as Steven’s lungs were straining. He could hold his breath for a long time as a Dragonsoul, but not indefinitely. Dragon or not, he needed oxygen.

Michaela and Steven started for the surface. Her body lengthened as she went True Form. He followed suit, turning into a black beast that dwarfed her.

They broke from the water, their tails and wings sending them rocketing into the air. They were quite a sight, one black dragon and one platinum. Steven broke through a swinging bridge. Michaela smashed through a platform. Both let loose their Inferno Exhalant. The fire was the signal that would alert Skylar, Teegan, Pretty, and Abby Free that it was time to attack. The flames also gave them a view of the structure under them. Michaela hadn’t been wrong. The setup was like a treehouse, a ton of walkways and rooms, all suspended over the lagoon, lashed to pylons set into the coral beneath the sandy soil of the atoll.

There, near the western side of the lagoon, was Liam Strider, stripped, hanging from vines like a fly caught in a spider’s web. It was impossible to tell if he was alive or not. Dark shapes filled the forest, their eyes glittering.

A woman’s voice laughed from somewhere in the forest. “Y’all are finally here. Gotta say, I was getting a mite bit impatient.”

That accent wasn’t from Australia, that accent was full-on Texan. Michaela had made a mistake. And so had he.

It wasn’t a new enemy that had captured the Yellow Ronin. No, it was an old enemy Steven had faced before in Chicago. He’d barely escaped that fight. This time, there was no running. This time, he would put her down for good.
